Hi Friends!

Today is Day #10 of the Extreme Health Challenge! How are you holding up?

Toxic cookware

Did you know that toxins, chemicals, and heavy metals leach into your food when you cook at high temperatures?

Heavy metal exposure has a tremendous effect on our hormonal and endocrine systems. Some symptoms may include:

Nausea
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Abdominal pain
Central nervous system dysfunction
Heart problems
Anemia

And heavy metal exposure can damage…

central nervous system
cardiovascular system
gastrointestinal system
lungs
kidneys
liver
endocrine glands
bones

So what can we do? Here are some options…

Selenium: Selenium is an inhibitor of mercury accumulation and increases the excretion of mercury and arsenic

Vitamin C: A free-radical scavenger that has been shown to reduce lead levels in humans

Folate: Higher blood folate levels in pregnant women were associated with lower blood mercury and cadmium levels

Garlic: Garlic lowered lead levels in the blood of industrial workers as effectively as the chelator d-penicillamine

Alpha-Lipoic Acid and Glutathione: In preclinical studies, these compounds reduced the adverse changes in blood parameters due to lead, cadmium, and copper

How do we lower our risk?

The best way is to avoid cookware that contains heavy metals like:

Teflon
Aluminum
Any Cookware That’s Scratched

What Are Safe Materials To Cook With?

Swap the above out with options like…

Mercola Healthy Chef Cookware
Xtrema Ceramcor
Visions Corning

GreenPan
Beka Eco-Logic

You can Google search the above brands for more info.

Some safe options include:

Ceramic

Instructions: Clean out and throw away some of your pots and pans. Yes, actually throw them away and buy replacements. I realize this might be hard. Take a photo of a toxic pot or pan in your trash can and then upload it to Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag #ExtremeHealthChallenge and then upload that to http://www.extremehealthchallenge.com
