First off yes it works, however way too many faults for an item over $200. If this were a $30 item I wouldn’t complain. The 5 - 10 minute “warm-up” time was very frustrating and the software interface I had to uninstall and reinstall several times (wouldn’t start-up) overall very disappointed and returned item for refund.

I purchased this from their website in 2017. I've been using it on and off since then.

This is not for the faint of heart. The device has a some kind of flaw that will cause the computer to think that it's not connected to the USB. I've noticed that you have to jiggle the usb cord near the device. Once I get the computer to recognize it, I gently set it down without attempting to move the cord too much while it warms up.

The warm up time can take 5 minutes. I just leave mine plugged in and *usually* it does OK. Not idea with a laptop for sure. There is no "quick, check your ketone level" with this thing.

I've been using this thing long enough to have seen 3 different software iterations. None of them have been great. The user-interface needs to be reworked to be intuitive. I emailed the support team a couple of times with some suggestions, but to no avail.

But honestly... You don't really need to use the software more than a few times. This thing blinks the color of the levels of ketones in your breath, and it comes with a USB battery so you can use it without a computer. Just plug the battery in instead of the USB cord. Wait for the thing to stop blinking different colors like 70's disco. It should be solid blue when it's ready (it's now warm).

To measure your ketones it is VERY important to do it like this:

    1. Do not take a deep breath. In fact, before you put your mouth on this, exhale some breath so that your lungs aren't completely full, but you don't feel like you need to immediately take another breath for a few seconds.

    2. Put your mouth over the mouth piece and exhale... do not blow hard and fast. A little bit of blowing is fine, like if you're trying to cool down your soup without spraying hot soup all over the place.

    3. Keep exhaling. When you think you've got nothing left in your lungs, crunch your abs a bit and keep blowing. You're gonna look like an idiot that's about to pass out. Right before you pass out, exhale even more. You're trying to get that air that's waaaaaaay in the bottom of your lungs out. It helps if you visualize it that way. Exhale even more. It's not easy, and it may take a few times to get it perfect.

    4. Wait about 10 seconds and do it again.

    5. Repeat one last time.

Now, the ketone meter should be flashing a different color than blue. It starts with green... then turns yellow then red depending upon how much acetone is in your breath (a product of burning ketones).

Green, generally speaking is 5 to 29 PPM (you can configure this in the software, if you dare). Yellow is 30-79, Red is 80+. Here's the indications from their manual:

    BLUE : 0 - 4 PPM : Low
    GREEN : 4 - 30 PPM : Nutritional Range
    YELLOW : 30 - 80 PPM : High Ketosis
RED : above 80 PPM : Very High Ketosis

Note: The colored LED lights will blink/flash between 1 to 10 times. This will tell you where
your measurement is within the color range with 1 blink indicates the lowest value in the
range and10 blinks being the highest value in the range.
Readings within the blue range will not indicate with blinks, it will remain steady.

So if you use this method you can void the software entirely. 8 yellow blinks? You're almost to the RED ZONE.

I like to be in high end of yellow, I know it's working well if I do that, and it gives you some wiggle room if you're wanting to drink a beer on a Friday night, for instance.

For all of the flaws (and there are many), I do like having this thing, and once you understand the caveats it's really not too bad.

    Good luck out there.

I don't understand the negative reviews. Most seem to be complaining that it takes a very long time to occasionally calibrate, and a long time even to warm up. That is true. A better complaint would be that it's not very reliable in determining the level of ketosis -- high or low. On the other hand, I've never gotten a misread when I knew for sure that I was in ketosis (e.g., multi-day fast) or was not in ketosis (just ate). So it's not completely inaccurate, or junk. It's just not as precise or convenient as we would like. And the software is somewhat good and somewhat clunky. Better than a pin prick? Definitely. More fun that useful? Possibly. Worth it? Maybe. Best option available? Probably.

I struggled with this device from day one. The unit takes a very long time to "warm up" when you plug it into your computer, sometimes upto 5 to 10 minutes and each measurement you take sometimes it takes 2 to 10 minutes for it to reset itself. After using it for about 2 weeks I was encountering more and more connectivity problems. The device would show disconnected when it was in fact connected via USB cord. It also gives inaccurate readings. On your computer screen it would show one reading but the light that flash on the device would show a different reading.
By my 3 rd week it completely stopped working. I have contacted costumer services 7 times now but they would just give me troubleshooting tips but no one would help to troubleshoot over the phone or willing to replace or exchange the device. I've had it now for a month and worried that the company will in fact won't replace my unit even though it is not working. It is very obvious it is not a US based company because their costumer service is substandard. Once you purchase your device you are pretty much on your own and won't be able to replace it if it is defective. It is a very expensive device and I wasted so much time and energy trying to get it to work.
